چکیده

Avian acute leukemia viruses are a group of defective retroviruses which cause neoplasia in animals after short periods of latency. Transformation induced by the acute leukemia viruses usually manifest the direct expression of one or two viral one genes that include characteristic elements transduced from cellular genes termed proto-oncogenes. Table I demonstrates the oncogenic properties of these viruses. Of particular interest to our laboratory is the MC29 subgroup of acute transforming viruses with one-specific sequence termed mye as well as the avian myeloblastosis virus (AMV) subgroup with an one-specific sequence termed myb. There are dramatic biologic differences between these two subgroups of viruses. As illustrated in Table 1, the MC29 subgroup possesses a broad spectrum of oncogenicity in vivo, causing leukemia and solid tumors in animals, and the ability to transform a variety of cells such as fibroblasts and hematopoietic cells in vitro. By contrast, the AMV subgroup has a much narrower spectrum of oncogenicity in vivo, causing leukemia, but not solid tumors, and possesses the ability to transform only hematopoietic cells in vitro. Significant biologic differences exist among the viruses of the MC29 subgroup.

Oncogenic RNA tumor viruses code for oncogenes, which induce tumors in the animal and malignant transformation of cells in culture. The oncogenes are derived from normal cellular genes and their expression is controlled by viral regulatory elements which results in a roughly 100-fold amplification of the gene in comparison to its normal expression [9]. Since several viral oncogenes are expresse...

Cell Transformation by RNA Viruses: An Overview

Studies of oncogenic viruses have made seminal contributions to the molecular biology of cancer. Key discoveries include the identification of viral oncogenes and cellular proto-oncogenes, elucidation of signal transduction pathways, and identification of tumor suppressor genes. The origins of cancer virology began almost exactly one hundred years ago with the discovery of avian sarcoma and acu...

Identification of a Gag - Related Phosphoprotein

Many RNA tumor viruses preferentially induce neoplasms of hematologic or lymphoid tissue in susceptible animals. According to their oncogenic potential, these retroviruses are divisible into two groups, the acute leukemia viruses and the slow or chronic leukemia viruses. The acute viruses, such as Abelson murine leukemia virus (AbLV), 1 cause rapid onset of neoplastic disease (2-4 wk) following...

Detection and Isolation of H9N2 Subtype of Avian Influenza Virus in House Sparrows (Passer domesticus) of Ahvaz, Iran

Avian influenza (AI) is an acute infectious disease with worldwide significance causing extensive economic losses in the poultry industry. Avian influenza viruses (AIVs) belong to the family Orthomyxoviridae and categorized in the genus influenza virus A. These viruses have been isolated from more than 100 species of free-living birds. Migratory birds are considered as reservoirs for AIVs and a...

Avian myeloblastosis virus and E26 virus oncogene products are nuclear proteins.

The defective acute leukemia viruses avian myeloblastosis virus (AMV) and E26 virus each contain an inserted cellular sequence related to the same highly conserved cellular gene, proto-amv. The oncogenes of these two retroviruses differ from this cellular proto-oncogene in gene structure, transcript structure, and gene product. The product of the AMV oncogene (myb) is a 48,000 Mr protein, p48my...
